TITANFALL

Release date: March 11, 2014

Titanfall made waves when it was announced at E3 earlier this year. It looks to be the mech shooter that we’ve been waiting for—the pace of Hawken mixed with the simulation-style customization of MechWarrior Online. If there's one thing everyone loves, it's mechs.

DIABLO III  REAPER OF SOUL

Release date: March 25, 2014

Depending on who you ask, Diablo III was either a flop or a success. Blizzard’s ironed out most of the game’s major hiccups and has the first expansion: Reaper of Souls slated for release on March 25, 2014. The expansion will add the fifth act of the story and introduce the Crusader class—melee warriors armed with flails and spells.

THE ELDER SCROLLS (ONLINE)

Release date: April 4, 2014

It may not be made by Bethesda Game Studios, but it’s still an Elder Scrolls game and that’s enough to have us interested. Three factions—the Daggerfall Covenant, Aldmeri Dominion, and Ebonheart Pact—clash in an MMORPG set in the continent of Tamriel. We're not sure if it'll be as majestic as Skyrim, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

DARK SOUL II

Release date: May 31, 2014
Dark Souls II needs no introduction. It’s the definition of hardcore and despite some huge problems with the PC ports, Demon Souls and Dark Souls were both amazing. We’re crossing our fingers in the hopes that Dark Souls II will be amazing on PC.

TRANSISITOR

Release date: Early 2013
Supergiant Games hit it out of the park with Bastion and their follow-up is another action RPG, but this time, it also has some turn-based elements. It looks to be a great follow-up to a game that looked, played, and sounded absolutely amazing. Plus, how many games have a talking sword as a narrator?

WATCH DOGS

Release date: Q2 2014

If there’s any game more ambitious than Watch Dogs, we haven’t heard of it. The third-person open-world game from Ubisoft mixes hacking, combat, and unique player interaction in a way that we haven’t seen yet. It's been delayed, but it's still a game that all gamers should be waiting for.

THE WITNESS

Release date: Mid-2014
Jonathan Blow was one of the first indie developers to reach superstar status with Braid. He’s finally back with The Witness. It’s an exploration-based puzzle game that revolves around an empty island. It’s reminiscent of PC-classic Myst—in a good way. We’re huge fans of Braid and we’re looking forward to what comes next.

DRAGON AGE : INQUISITION

Release date: Q3 2014

BioWare dropped the ball with Dragon Age 2, but it’s got a good chance at making things right with Dragon Age: Inquisition. The RPG will still take place in Thedas, but will feature a completely new protagonist and is set after the events of Dragon Age II.

EVOLVE

Release date: Q3 2014
We don’t have much to go on, but we think Evolve looks pretty amazing from what we’ve seen. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios, they’re the team who made Left 4 Dead, the game is shaping up to be something of a combination of Borderlands and Left 4 Dead. Four players face off against a giant, player-controlled monster.

HOTLINE MIAMI 2 :WRONG NUMBER

Release date: Q3 2014
Even if you haven’t played the game, you’ve probably heard of Hotline Miami at some point. It’s a gruesome top-down shooter with retro stylings and a psychedelic story. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is tied to the story of the first game and will follow parallel plotlines. The focus is still on shooting, stealth, and gore.

THE CREW

It was originally meant to be a launch title for the PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s now set to release sometime in the coming months. Ubisoft calls it a combination of multiplayer and singleplayer mechanics with four-player car teams working together to complete objectives in a game that sounds like Midnight Club crossed with GTA.

THE EVIL WITHIN

Release date: Q4 2014
Shinji Mikami left Capcom and Platinum Games to start his own studio—Tango Gameworks which has since been picked up by Bethesda. The Evil Within is the last game he plans on directing and it’s going to be “pure survival horror.” Fans of Resident Evil should pay close attention to The Evil Within.

HEARTHSTONE

Release date: 2014

Hearthstone has finally moved into open beta with access available to anyone who’s interested and we’re definitely interested. It’s ridiculous to think that the game will change very much before it releases, but we’re excited to get the final product whenever Blizzard finally decides it's ready for prime time.

MAD MAX

Release date: 2014

Not much has been revealed about the classic movie turned video game, but we know that it's being made by the team at Avalanche Studios. WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER

Release date: 2014

Wolfenstein 3D started the FPS craze and most of the Wolfenstein games have been received relatively well. The New Order is the latest entry in the franchise and although it doesn’t look like a game changer, we love shooters, and it's hard to argue with such a good-looking game.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT: WARLORDS OF DEAENOR

Release date: 2014

PEOPLE WHO SHOWED ANIMATION TO THE WORLD...HATS OFF TO THEM..

PEOPLE WHO SHOWED ANIMATION TO THE WORLD...HATS OFF TO THEM..

TOP  TEN  RANKINGS...

rANK 1: WALT DISNEY

(1901-1966)

He is undeniably THE most important figure in the 20th century animation industry. Walt's work in the development of cartoons in general in addition to sound cartoons, character development, personality animation and color advanced the craft more than any other one person in the industry. Walt's work at Disney helped move the animation from a short-form to a feature-length art form. Oh and he created Oswald Rabbit AND Mickey Mouse, amongst many other notable characters. Walt's well-earned iconic status has been recognized by the industry time and time again, and his accolades includes 7 Emmy Awards, 59 Academy Award nominations, 22 wins and 4 honorary Academy Awards. When Disney died in 1966 the world lost much. After his death industry greats  reminisced about the man with the pencil behind his ear who famously used to doodle on napkins in restaurants.

rANK 2: STEVE JOBS

                                                  (1955-2011)

When Steve applied his incredible influence to the Pixar company he turned it from a failed George Lucas spin-off to an animation empire. This was before he went back to Apple and invented the iPod. Perhaps partial credit for this listing should be given to the Board of Director boneheads over at Apple who fired the creative boy wonder, freeing him up to discover his love of all things animated. Pixar as we know it, thanks to Steve's influence, has irrevocably changed the face of the modern film and animation industry. Steve, and Pixar's, first film back in '95, Toy Story, was the first feature-length film ever to be created entirely with CGI—and it grossed $360 million. Thanks to Steve lending his creative genius to the animation field we have entirely CGI films like A Bug's Life,, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille and the uber-precious WALL-E and Up. While Steve was not an animator himself, he had the foresight to hire John Lasseter and Ed Catmull, and let them run the creative side of the business. As CEO his best contribution to Pixar and animation as an art form was insisting on high-quality products—a concept that allowed the creative genius of Lasseter and Catmull to successfully run wild. Despite Steve's recent death his creation of “The Pixar Touch” earned him the number 2 spot on our list in its own right, despite his passing.

rANK 3: CHUCK JONES

                                                 (1912-2002)

Charles Martin "Chuck" Jones was an American animator, cartoon artist, screenwriter, producer, and director of animated films, most memorably of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts for the Warner Bros.
Of course this comes as no surprise to the animation aficionados reading this, since Oscar Award-winning Chuck Jones is not only a legend in the industry but also a legend that created legends. Chuck's classic characters include The Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Pepe LePew, Michigan J. Frog, Marvin Martian and Charlie Dog, to name just a few (seriously, his list is too long to do justice). He also significantly contributed to the development of Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny. Chuck even helped direct and animate the fantastical Dr. Seuss classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Another list too long to mention is the awards that have been bestowed on Chuck, the highlight of which is a Lifetime achievement award from the Oscars for his animation work and industry-defining contributions.

rANK 4: TEX AVERY

(1908-1980)

Frederick Bean Avery, called "Tex", "Fred" or "Texas",was an American animator, cartoonistvoice actor and director, famous for producing animated cartoons during The Golden Age of Hollywood animation. He did his most significant work for the Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, creating the characters of Bugs BunnyDaffy Duck,DroopyScrewy Squirrel, and developing Porky PigChilly Willy (this last one for the Walter Lantz Studio) into the personas for which they are remembered.
It should come as no surprise as that Tex Avery made the list. In fact our surveyed readers near demanded it. If Walt Disney is THE father of animation, then Tex Avery (and Chuck Jones) are its Godfathers. Tex is responsible for the zany Hollywood cartooning style of the '40s that was pivotal to the evolution of the art form. Tex, aka Fred Avery, created the characters Droopy, Screwy Squirrel and Red Hot Riding Hood, and directed the first animations of Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny.  His work at Warner Bros. and MGM during the formative years of animation had far reaching influences and it is said that almost every animated series of the time has some Tex influence in it. Tex's influential style was described as steering “the Warner Bros. house style away from Disney-esque sentimentality and made cartoons that appealed equally to adults, who appreciated Avery's speed, sarcasm, and irony, and to kids, who liked the nonstop action,” by Gary Morris. “Disney's "cute and cuddly" creatures, under Avery's guidance, were transformed into unflappable wits like Bugs Bunny, endearing buffoons like Porky Pig, or dazzling crazies like Daffy Duck

rANK 5: MAX FLEISCHER

                                                     (1883-1972)

Max Fleischer was an American animator, inventor, film director and producer. Fleischer was a pioneer in the development of the animated cartoon and served as the head of Fleischer Studios.
Max's creativity went far beyond animating though, he also creatively ran the studio with dumbfounding vision—and inventions. Max's technological advancements of the art form include inventing the Rotoscope and The Stereooptical Process, a precursor to Disney's Mutliplane. Despite creating cartoons in the same era as Disney Fleischer Studios distinguished themselves by creating the distinguished Fleischer look, a sophisticated and gritty look  focusing on surrealism, dark humor and elements of adult psychology and sexuality.

Max also helped pioneer both color and feature-length animated films. Max was pushing their relationship with Paramount to create a feature-length films for 3 full years before Disney released their first, Snow White. Max introduced the Color Classics series as an alternative to Disney's colored Silly Symphonies

rANK 6: MAX FLEISCHER

                                                              (1905-1995)

Being an animator in the golden era of cartoons seems to be the key to a long life. Carl Barks lived almost to his hundredth birthday, Friz Freleng lived almost 90 years, and many others were prominent octogenarians and nonagenarians. Isadore Freleng, or Friz Freleng—on account of his frizzy hair—has been made famous not for his hair, but for his contributions to the to the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies classic series from Warner Bros. Friz developed/introduced most of the classic Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam and Speedy Gonzalez.

In his directorial career at Warners Friz directed 266 cartoons—more then any other director at the studio. In addition to being the longest-running/busiest director he was also the most-honored, with 4 Academy Awards to his credit.

rANK 7: UB IWERKS

(1901-1971)

Ub Iwerks, A.S.C. was a two-time Academy Award winning American animator, cartoonist, character designer, inventor, and special effects technician, who co-created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey.
Ub Iwerks is part of the animation royalty that helped create the industry. He is the son of Disney Legend Don Iwerks, but Ub quickly moved out of his father's illustrious shadow to become a prominent animator, character designer, and special effect technician in his own right. Ub not only stepped out of his father's shadow but exceeded his father's contributions when he helped create the world's most-famed and beloved animated character, Mickey Mouse. In '86 DC Comics honored him with the creation of their Doctor Ub'x character. Several noted animators have listed Ub as an inspiration for their work and his style was mimicked by legendary anime artists Osamu Tezuka and Shōtarō Ishinomori. Legendary animator Chuck Jones once jokingly described Iwerks quirky personality when he said “Iwerks is Screwy spelled backwards.”.

rANK 8: EDWIN CATMULL

                                                    1945 (age 69)

Edwin Earl "Ed" Catmull, PhD is a computer scientist and current president of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. As a computer scientist, Catmull has contributed to many important developments in computer graphics. To add to his already-impressive resume he was also a co-founder of Pixar and president at Walt Disney. He also served as VP of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm. Ed has earned 5 regular Academy Awards, the Academy Award of Merit, the Gordeon E. Sawyer Lifetime Achievement Award, 2 Scientific and Engineering Awards and a Technical Achievement Award. And that was just to new a mere few. He also warranted Ub Iwerks Award for 'technical advancements in the art or industry of animation'. Dr. Ed Catmull's contributions to the technical advancement of the animation industry are unparalleled.

rANK 9: WINSOR McCAY

                                                   (1869-1934)

Zenas Winsor McCay was an American cartoonist and animator. He is best known for the comic strip Little Nemo and the animated film Gertie the Dinosaur. Winsor McCay's Houdini-like illusion skills pioneered the rudimentary animation process of turning drawings into motion. With that claim to fame under his belt, he is rightfully credited as the Father of Animation. And since I can't phrase it better than this I will quote his bio in Wikipedia: “Historically, McCay is in a league only with himself”. Winsor's original Gertie the Dinosaur ink-on-rice-paper drawings are still prominently on display in lucky museums and private collections around the world.

rANK 10: BILL HANNA/JOE BARBERA

The multi-Academy Award and Oscar winning Bill Hanna/Joe Barbera duo certainly warranted individual spots on our Top 100 list, but separating the dynamic duo seemed criminal. Their joint effort in creating Hanna-Barbera led to the creation of so many beloved characters, including Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Jonny Quest and Scooby Doo. And let's not forget the original cat-and-mouse duo: Tom and Jerry. Since the late 50s the team revolutionized the animation for TV genre, a feat not forgotten despite the passing of William in 2001 and Joseph in 2006.
